Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five in which he loved participating in numerous card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very competitive in the above-mentioned card games while playing his father. After finishing high school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a bit and moved to New York City to compete in some big-time chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were tough as he played many hours and lost a majority of the time. He made some extra cash by becoming an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he could improve his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to get more rest and focus more on the game.
The actual advancement in his game began when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best gamblers would regularly wager against each other. Howard had access into a few of the foremost minds in chess. With their help, he would sharpen his logical thinking techniques. He used these strategic ideas in the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.
He also helped his sister Annie Duke master poker. She was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper choice. Howard told Annie to move out to Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie is one of the best female players the poker world has ever seen. Howard Lederer headed to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in money games for the following decade. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
