NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
