NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
